Dr. Elke Thisted
- Chemist with expertise in process control and variography.
- Lead Process Engineer at Glencore Nikkelverk, optimizing online analysis.
- Pioneered practical solutions for process industry sampling.
She studied Chemistry at the Technical University in Karlsruhe/Germany and holds a master’s degree in chemistry since 1998. She got her Ph.D.-degree from the Norwegian University of Technology and Science in Trondheim/Norway in 2003 working on impurity studies in aluminum electrolysis. From 2004 Elke started her process industry career at Elkem, a major producer of ferrosilicon, silicon, microsilica and carbon. She worked with analytical method development for process control and product quality as well as LEAN and its applications via the Elkem’s business system. Since 2015 she has worked with variography as a tool to understand its application in the process industry and apply the knowledge “in-action”. Furthermore, she has a broad experience on solving sampling challenges by applying TOS in a practical way. She has published several articles on application of variography to determine the origin of variances in the process as well as its usage as tool to control data quality from emission sources.
Since 2014 Elke has been working at Glencore Nikkelverk in Kristiansand, Norway. She started as Lead Process Engineer responsible for process mapping and improvement by applying principles of the Nikkelverk business system and is since 2018 responsible for Online analyses and development at the plant.
Elke has participated at all WCSB conferences since 2015 in Bordeaux and was head of the organizational committee for the 10th WCSB conference in Kristiansand in 2022.
