 Dr. Karin Engström holds a PhD in sampling from Aalborg University and has built her career at LKAB, a leading Swedish mining company. Since joining LKAB in 2011, Dr. Engström has focused on optimizing process control and ensuring product quality within the company’s iron ore operations. Her research covers a wide range of sampling-related issues, including in open-pit mining, mineral processing, and environmental monitoring. Dr. Engström has been instrumental in integrating advanced sampling techniques into LKAB’s operations, leading initiatives to enhance both the quality and environmental sustainability of the company’s products. Her current work is closely aligned with LKAB’s green transition projects, which aim to reduce carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency. In addition to her technical contributions, Dr. Engström has supervised numerous thesis projects, guiding the next generation of mining professionals. She now serves as a strategic product engineer, where she continues to influence the direction of LKAB’s operations.
